And he shows the world how to graciously bow out of a race.
He did it without compromising his beliefs, and without endorsing nor bashing any other Republican candidate. He let Us, and the world, know what is at stake and what is important (in his view, and mostly, in mine).

Unfortunately, he's compromised that graceful bow out more than a bit now...he endorsed McCain.
Two words:
Political expediance.
He wants the republican party to win, and he thinks McCain is the one who will get nominated, anyway. He wants the process over early so that the party can press on with a national strategy to beat the democrats.
I don't know if I like that strategy, since many republicans would rather Obama screw up the next 4 years than McCain, but then, would those same people rather not see Huckabee in office either?
(In case you haven't heard, many of the pundents think any one of the four still on the ballot will be a disaster, and they would just as soon the democratic party get blamed for the disaster of the next four years. I don't know if I go along with that line of thinking or not.)
